A Farm Fresh Comfort Food Made With Local Fresh Squeaky Curds
One of the most fun ways our customers enjoy Mistyglen cheese curds is on a warm, loaded plate of homemade poutine. Of course, our curds are pretty hard to resist right out of the bag, especially with that perfect squeak, but they are also a delicious way to turn crispy fries and gravy into something the whole family will enjoy. Try this out the next time you’re watching sports or a movie, playing a family game, or just hanging out!
We make our cheese curds with milk from our own cows and produce them fresh every Friday. That freshness gives them their soft, bouncy texture and that squeak people love. Whether you use our classic Plain curds, Dill Pickle, Loaded Potato, or one of our rotating flavours, this recipe is easy to make and fun to switch up.
Farm Fresh Mistyglen Cheese Curd Poutine
Ingredients
4 cups homemade or frozen fries
1 to 2 cups Mistyglen Creamery cheese curds
2 cups hot beef, chicken, or vegetable gravy
1/2 cup cooked bacon bits (or even better, cut up real bacon!)
2 chopped green onions
A spoonful of sour cream (optional)
Black pepper (to taste)
Instructions
Cook your fries until they are hot and crispy. Use homemade, oven-cooked, air-fried, or your favourite frozen fries.
While the fries are cooking, warm the gravy in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir often and heat until hot, but do not let it boil.
Place the fries in a shallow bowl or serving dish. Add a generous amount of Mistyglen cheese curds over top, then pour the hot gravy over the fries and curds. The warm gravy will soften the curds while still leaving some of that fresh, squeaky texture.
Top with bacon, green onions, black pepper, and a spoonful of sour cream if you like. Serve right away while everything is warm, cheesy, and delicious.
Fun Ways to Spice It Up
You can also change it up depending on what curds you have on hand. Try Dill Pickle curds with chopped pickles for a tangy twist, Loaded Potato curds with extra bacon and green onion, or add buffalo chicken and a drizzle of ranch for a little heat. With so many Mistyglen curd flavours rotating through the farm store and local retailers, you can be creative and make this poutine your own in a variety of ways.
Recipes do not need to be complicated to be good. Sometimes all you need are crispy fries, warm gravy, and a bag of fresh Mistyglen cheese curds made with milk from our own cows.
Next time you pick up cheese curds from the farm or one of our local retailers, plan a bag for loaded poutine. It’s warm, comforting, and a simple way to bring more Mistyglen goodness to your table. If you do, be sure to share your version of this poutine and tag us on social media!
