When you pick up milk for your family, it may feel like a simple, everyday purchase. It goes into your morning coffee, your cereal, your baking, or a cold glass at the table. But when you choose milk from a small local dairy farm, that purchase means a great deal to the family behind the bottle.
At Mistyglen Creamery, our milk comes from our own cows, is processed here on our farm, and is available through our farm store and local retail partners. We are proud to produce fresh dairy products for families in our region, and we are always grateful when someone chooses Mistyglen.
One of the special things about supporting a small local dairy farm is knowing where your food comes from. Our customers can visit the farm, see how we care for our cows, and purchase products made with milk from the herd right here in Belmont, Ontario. There is a real connection in knowing that the milk in your fridge came from a farm and family in your own community.
Being a small dairy farm also allows us to do things a little differently. Our milk travels only about 100 feet from our barn to our on-farm processing room before we bottle it. We use low-temperature vat pasteurization, leave our milk non-homogenized so the cream rises naturally to the top, and keep our processing as simple as possible while meeting Canadian food safety standards.
We also use milk from our own cows to make products such as our traditional cup set yogurt and fresh cheese curds. For us, it is not about producing as much milk as possible. It is about making the best dairy products that we are proud to share with our customers, our neighbours, and our own families.
